Pediatrician convicted for child molestation
Jonathon Cavins, a former pediatrician in Boone County has been sentenced for child molesting, child seduction, and sexual misconduct. He is a former pediatrician because his medical license has been suspended, per the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana.
Jonathan Cavins, 46, was sentenced to 23 years, 19 years of which must be served in prison and four years of which may be a suspended sentence.
There were five different underage victims involved in the criminal proceedings, all of whom described very similar and repulsive experiences. Boone Count convicted Cavins for one count of sexual misconduct with a minor, two counts of child seduction, and two counts of child molesting. The charges involved five different victims.
Cavins was accused of inappropriately touching a 12-year-old boy during an examination in February 2019. After his arrest, two other boys, ages 16 and 14, reported inappropriate conduct by Cavins during physical examinations, police said. Two more boys became involved after investigation continued.
According to Boone County Prosecutor Kent Eastwood, “We are thankful that the boys showed such strength and courage in coming forward to tell their story of abuse. By doing so, Lebanon Police Department Detectives and members of the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office were able to obtain this important conviction on their behalf and on behalf of Our Community. We pray that this will serve as a beacon for other victims of sexual abuse to come forward to have their voices heard.”
