Elementary School Principal Indicted

Kirk Ashton indicted for child sexual abuse

While watching the evening news on Wednesday April 21st 2021 parents of students at Northwood Elementary were sickened to hear that on April 20th, 2021 Kirk Ashton, principle of Northwood Elementary in Hilton NY, was indicted on Child Sexual Abuse charges.  Many are them asking the Hilton Central School District how this could of happened.  Having two children that attend Northwood Elementary, Kimberly Reed, like many others, how did no one know about this alleged abuse.

“I am a former teacher, so as a former teacher, I just’t can’t help but think, how did no-one know this was happening,” Reed said.  “I have heard it firsthand from parents saying that their sons gotten taken out of class to go read a book to the principle, and they would go in the room and the door was locked and the blinds were closed.  Like aren’t those red flags?  It literally makes me sick to my stomach, to think about these sweet boys who were so innocent and had no idea what was going on.”

The indictment on April 20th, 2021 was for six counts of Sexual Abuse in the 1st degree, five counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the 2nd degree and nine counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The dates that these charges occured was between September 1st, 2017 and March 26th, 2021.

On June 21, 2021, a second indictment was unsealed in front of Monroe County Court Judge Bailey- Turner charging Kirk Ashton with five counts of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree, thirteen counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the 2nd Degree and ten counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. This indictment involves fifteen additional victims to the previous indictment. Kirk Ashton was arraigned after the indictment was unsealed and bail was set concurrently to his previous indictment at $250,000 cash, $1,000,000 bond and $2,500,000 partially secured bond. All charges are alleged to happen on school grounds at Northwood Elementary School.
